Looking at Me
By Ogbonnia Nwachi
October 23, 2009
Again
She is looking at me
Why is she always looking at me?
I can’t tell. Maybe she can tell.
How can I get her to tell?
I will call her
What if she says I do the looking?
Of course, she may be right.
I will no longer look at her
But she is moving towards my direction
Coming and chatting with her friends
Still stealing a look at me.
How did I see her?
I can’t become temporarily blind because of her
It could be she loves me
Am I even interested in her?
See, she is waving at me
Did I wave back?
Maybe yes
Maybe no.
What am I saying?
I waved
But what is happening to me?
Charmed by a mere wave of the hand?
Wow! She is coming alone
Do I call her?
But what will I tell her
Here she waves again.
What is happening to me?
Am I falling?
Falling into what?
I do not know.
No, I know
Know what?
What am I even doing here?
Walk away?
No!
I must see the end of this drama
Here she comes again
Her eyes still on me.
Call her, my mind tells me
I beckon
She comes
Wearing a triumphant face, she comes.
Why are you always looking at me?
Are you not looking at me as well?
I make to leave
But she holds my hands.
Looking deeply into my eyes, she whispers
I am in LOVE…
Neck deep in love with you
Do you love me?
Her words sonorous
Her lips succulent
Her hands electrifying
Her eyes glamorous.
I replied with a tight embrace
Whispering, I love you too, in her waiting ears
I have fallen
Fallen in love.
Hand in hand, we walk along
Another touches me by the side as she passes by
I looked back, and our eyes caught one another
May be she too has been looking at me.
