A Brief History
EbonyiOnline was founded in 2008 by Edward Nwachi, President of EON Group International, a firm that specializes in information management, ICT and website development. Edward is an Ebonyi indigen based in USA.
On trips to Ebonyi State in the years before the birth of EbonyiOnline, Edward found it extremely difficult to find information about Ebonyi State online. Other Ebonyians – home and abroad – reported similar experience. Determined to change that, Edward hired, trained and mobilized an initial team of about a dozen workers (most of them from Ebonyi State) to commence the development of EbonyiOnline. This initial team began gathering the first batch of data for the website in January 2009.
Information gathering included visiting dozens of Ebonyi towns and villages to collect information, edit the materials, describe and tag them for web publishing.

Later, more professionals from EON Group International along with volunteers from the United States took interest in the project. Some of them contributed money and professional services to support the project. Following several months of hard work and investment, EbonyiOnline.com was born.
In August and September 2013, EbonyiOnline underwent a major upgrade in content management software and added several new features including News, Alerts, an improved Business Directory, Career Opportunities, etc. With the recent upgrade, EbonyiOnline is better positioned than ever to provide a wider range of information services to Ebonyi people, businesses and organizations.
Why We Are Ranked # 1
In a survey of websites across the country, the National Library ranked EbonyiOnline as the most comprehensive state-wide website in Nigeria. Why are we ranked at the top?
1) Word-class Information Management + Web Development Skills
Some of the information categories in EbonyiOnline.com
According to Google, the most important factor in the success of a website is information (also called content). The team that built EbonyiOnline include professionals with world-class expertise in information management, website development and ICT. We combined these skills in the development of EbonyiOnline and other websites such as AfikpoOnline.com (showcases Afikpo as an attractive destination for culture and tourism) and Afrometro.com, the largest website showcasing African/Caribbean businesses, events, opportunities and more – worldwide.
By contrast, many web builders can design and build a website but struggle when it comes to the most important skill – preparing and managing the information in a website.
2) Lots of Content!!
EbonyiOnline has lots of information – published and to be published!
- Hundreds of pages of positive human-interest stories and information about Ebonyi State history, peoples, customs & traditions, government, tourism and more.
- A Business Directory with thousands of business listings.
- Current news and alerts – news relevant to Ebonyians at home and abroad.
- 100+ videos – with more coming.
- Hundreds of photos – with more coming.

No other state-wide website in Africa has such a comprehensive set of information. We looked and did not find. Let us know if you find one.
3) Love of State and Community Service
Ebonyi is home to many of the people that built EbonyiOnline. As the saying goes, charity begins at home. Beside love of State, many team members believe in the power of information to positively impact personal and community development. That’s why some of them volunteer to work for EbonyiOnline – with or without pay.
